Every year in the UK over 30,000 people suffer an out of hospital cardiac arrest and only 1 in 10 will survive. For every minute that passes, a person’s chance of survival goes down by 10%. Only 40% of these people receive CPR and fewer than 2% have an automated external defibrillator (AED} used prior to an ambulance arrival.

Registered Charity No. 1107496
A-A is a registered charity with its registered offices in Warwickshire. We first launched our campaign in our home county with the first placement at Prontaprint in Stratford upon Avon. This drew the attention of the Mayor of Stratford, the Town Council and the Stratford Herald. Following the press coverage we received numerous enquiries and went on to place more AEDs in Warwickshire from Shipston on Stour and surrounding villages in the south through to Kenilworth, Warwick, Coventry, and Alcester in the north of the county and many towns and villages in between.
The goal of A-A Defibs Save Lives programme is to reduce the number of sudden cardiac deaths in the UK and worldwide. Working alongside HeartSafe we have placed hundreds of AEDs in communities across the UK.
A-A is a coalition of charities, patient groups, patients, carers, medical groups and allied professionals. Although these groups remain independent, they work together under the A-A umbrella to promote timely and effective diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias.
A-A provides support, information, education, and awareness to all those affected by or involved in the care of cardiac arrhythmias.
Almost 100% of the AEDs placed under our Defibs Save Lives programme have been made available 24/7 in cabinets supplied by HeartSafe and we have promoted the partnership as A-A and HeartSafe.
Communities feel safe in the knowledge that HeartSafe have provided the defibrillators and cabinets and ensured they are listed with the WMAS so that in an emergency when someone called 999 they would be provided with the code and access to the AED.
HeartSafe was the first to introduce cabinets – locked and unlocked – so that AEDs could be accessed 24/7 upon contact with the local ambulance service. HeartSafe represents a local, regional and national brand and A-A is proud to be a partner as together we can place more AEDs in communities thus saving lives.

To provide everyone in our shared community with the best pre-hospital emergency care, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) are partnering with HeartSafe® to launch a new all-in-one lifesaving AED package.
GWAAC’s crew bring their critical care skills to over 500 cardiac patients a year, representing around 25% of our missions. Yet despite the extraordinary level of clinical skill our crew bring to the scene, cardiac patients are dependent on other essential links prior to our arrival.
To achieve our vision that everyone should receive the lifesaving pre-hospital emergency care they need, wherever they are, whenever they need it, we need to strengthen every link in the chain of survival for someone who is suffering an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

By sending the skill and equipment normally found in a hospital Emergency Department to the scene of the most serious 999 calls, we give people the best chance on their worst day.
For an investment of around £2,100 – your community can become HeartSafe and part of the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity’s public heart initiative.
